DIARY: Brew site sets up global pub cams

Will the wonders of the Internet never cease?

Will the wonders of the Internet never cease?

Starting March 9, beer lovers and lonely people (two groups with plenty

of overlap) were able to log onto Beer.com and have a drink with fellow

revelers in bars across the globe. Two-way ’StellaCams’ (named after

Belgian brew Stella Artois) have been installed in pubs from New York to

Germany, and suds-lovers can access them through the site free of

charge.

The owners of the site - a bevy of brewing, entertainment and Internet

groups - hope that the stunt will alert people to Beer.com’s mission:

the unification of beer drinkers around the world. As for the StellaCam,

dollars 2 gets you chat time with whoever’s sitting in the ’Stella

seat,’ and for dollars 6.50 you can buy him or her a beer. No word yet

on how much a phone number will cost.
