SAN FRANCISCO: Golin/Harris has hired former Arthur Andersen media relations director David Gaier as a VP in the firm’s tech-centric San Francisco office. Gaier arrives from Western Pacific Data Systems, where he served as director of marketing and media relations. At Golin, he will provide counsel and branding support for several tech clients, including Quantum, InFocus and Hewlett-Packard.

BLOOMINGTON, MN: The Scotts Company, the world’s leading supplier of

do-it-yourself lawn and garden care products, has tapped Shandwick for

PR, brand defense and community relations.





DALLAS: eFANshop.com has lured Chris Anderson away from the world of

academia to serve as director of PR. Anderson, currently a visiting

professor of corporate communications at Southern Methodist University,

will leave the school at the end of the spring term. Previously, he was

marketing communications manager at Footaction USA and worked at Sunwest

Communications.





SOUTHFIELD, MI.: Lear Corp, one of the world’s largest automotive

suppliers with 1999 sales of dollars 12.4 billion, has hired Andrea

Puchalsky as director of corporate communications, Karen Stewart-Spica

as director of technology communications, and Malene Pickles as manager

of European PR.





SILVER SPRING, MD: The National Cancer Institute’s office of cancer

communications has awarded a one-year, dollars 1.2 million support

contract to Prospect Associates. The assignment will include PR counsel

and the development of an interactive Web-based training program.





NEW YORK: Michael Marinello, a former press secretary for Sen. Bob

Kerrey, has joined Principal Healthcare, a division of GCI Group, as

VP.





PALO ALTO, CA: After three years with Stoorza Ziegaus & Metzger and the

agency’s political arm, Campaign Strategies, Geoff Patnoe has moved to

the Weber Group’s Palo Alto office as a SAE. Patnoe was formerly a press

aide to CA governor Pete Wilson.





FOSTER CITY, CA: Hoping to cash in on the growing European market for

hi-tech PR, Wilson McHenry Company has opened a satellite office in

London.



The new UK branch will be headed by senior account manager Sylvia

Braunle.

company, has teamed with National Satellite to launch a fleet of digital

multi-stream satellite trucks. Dean Hovell has left his post as senior

operations producer for ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings to

serve as president of the new entity.
