Hoping to rile up fans, the Los Angeles Avengers’ marketing minions got
a bit randy with a series of posters and billboards. A month or two ago,
signage appeared trumpeting the phrases:,’On April 9th (the date of the
Avengers’ first home game), a man will put his hands between another
man’s legs AND BARK LIKE A DOG’ and ’On April 9th, eight Oklahoma
tourists will be beaten in downtown Los Angeles.’
The Avengers weren’t named on any of the posters, leaving locals
confused and appalled. That’s fine as far as team spokesman John
Tamahana is concerned: ’In time, it will be revealed as a play on words.
We’re not naive enough to think that it’s not pushing the edge.’
