DEARBORN, MI: New Ford communications chief Jason Vines has wasted

little time in putting his stamp on the company’s in-house PR

department.

Last week, he took his first steps toward reorganizing the extensive

in-house operations of the world’s second largest industrial company,

making a series of moves that constitute a sweeping revision of the

department.

Vines promoted Jim Vella to the post of executive director of corporate

communications - the number-two PR slot. Among the communications groups

that will report to Vella are global news; North American operations PR;

communications services; manufacturing and purchasing PR; and internal

communications.

Vines didn’t stop there, installing heavy-hitter Neil Golightly,

formerly chief of staff for company chairman Bill Ford Jr., in the newly

created role of director, trustmark communications. Golightly’s group

will handle corporate identity and national affairs, as well as

activities such as Ford’s upcoming centennial in 2003.

In addition to Vella and Golightly, other top Ford communicators

reporting directly to Vines are Ken Zino, director of global product

development PR; Mel Stephens, director of IR and e-business

communications (a new title); Tom Mattia, the Irvine, CA-based

Lincoln-Mercury PR director; and Ford/Europe VP of public affairs Joe

Greenwell.

North American Operations now report through Ann Doyle, promoted to the

director level from her former post as Ford Division public affairs

manager. Replacing her as head of Ford Division PR is Francine

Ramine-McBride.

Vines also unveiled a new position - PR head of the Premier Automotive

Group, which includes Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo and

now Land Rover.
