WASHINGTON, DC: The Baker-Widmeyer Group has tapped David Frank to lead
its new education practice. Frank, who most recently served as
communications director and public affairs chief at the Department of
Education, had previously been a speechwriter for Secretary of State
Warren Christopher (see related story, p5).
SAN FRANCISCO: Edelman has promoted Alison Wertheim to GM of the firm’s
San Francisco office, which has more than 50 employees and handles such
clients as Charles Schwab and Microsoft. Previously deputy GM and head
of the San Francisco corporate/financial practice, Wertheim takes over
for Western Region president Matthew Harrington.
NEW YORK: Teen People has named Denise Keegan director of brand
development and communications, a newly created post. She was previously
director of PR at Revlon. The magazine also named Amy Galleazzi senior
manager of public affairs.

NEW YORK: Ernst & Young has named Ken Kerrigan associate director of its
PR department. Previously a managing director in Hill & Knowlton’s media
relations department, Kerrigan will head up PR efforts for the company’s
national tax practice.
CHICAGO: Ogilvy has named Brian Connolly and David Thomson SVPs of its
technology and corporate practices, respectively. Connolly was most
recently EVP and director of the branding practice at venture catalyst
firm Conicworks, while Thomson hails from insurance giant CNA. The
agency also named Kevin Petschow VP in its tech practice.
NEW YORK: The Marmara-Manhattan hotel has tapped Lou Hammond &
Associates for PR counsel. Opened in spring 1998, the hotel is owned and
operated by international hospitality company Marmara.
NEW YORK: The Hong Kong Tourist Association has tapped Spring O’Brien as
its PR agency of record. The agency beat out Hill & Knowlton and Diana
Orban Associates for the work, which includes media relations and
strategic counsel. Spring O’Brien is seeking an account supervisor to
help manage the account.
