her feet, despite the suspension of the men’s lifestyle title.

After the Details staff was informed of the decision at the end of

March, Madden was quickly snapped up by GQ to serve as the magazine’s

director of PR. In that post, she will handle events such as the annual

’Man of the Year’ bash.

While Madden formally begins her new job next Monday, she is continuing

to field calls about Details, which is tentatively set to return in

October.

The magazine’s Web site, complete with subscription information, was

still operational as of last Monday.

Madden should consider herself lucky, as recent closures have left a

handful of top magazine publicists pounding the pavement - such as

former Life PR director Alison Hart Cirenza, who had been with the

magazine for more than five years. Though Life is scheduled to close its

doors on May 11, its remaining staffers will be allowed to use the

offices until July 7.

At GQ, Madden replaces outgoing PR director Mary Wible, who has teamed

with GQ special projects director Deborah Williamson to form Swell

Productions, an event production and publicity shop. The two have

already been retained by their former employer to consult on ’Man of the

Year’ and other events, and are also preparing a film premiere and

launch party for the Merchant/Ivory production Set Me Free, opening

April 14.

Wible said the idea for the company sprang from her friendship and

working relationship with Williamson.
