the beginning of next month, Southard Communications has captured seven

new accounts, worth about dollars 1.25 million, bringing the agency’s

total billings to over dollars 4 million.

Five of the new clients are dot-coms, including Drugmax.com, a

business-to-business online trade exchange for pharmaceuticals and

over-the-counter products; and Ibetcha.com, a Web site allowing visitors

to bet on games using ’betcha bucks’ instead of real money. In addition,

Pameco, a distributor of heating, ventilation and refrigeration systems,

retained the agency for a corporate image and trade media campaign.

According to Southard president and CEO Bill Southard, being a

generalist agency has been an asset in pitching dot-coms. ’Many clients

are interested in us not only because we have online experience, but

because we also have relevant industry experience,’ he explained. For

example, Southard said that the firm’s publishing industry expertise

helped it win Xlibris.com, a site that facilitates online custom

publishing.

The San Fran move, according to Southard, was motivated by a desire to

better service current client Leapfrog Toys.
