Applied Communications has begun adding horses to the stable - including

a major portion of AltaVista’s business.

The search engine hired Applied earlier this year to handle PR for its

recently launched Business Solutions unit. There was no formal review

for the account, according to AltaVista director of communications David

Emanuel, who said he was familiar with Applied’s capabilities from when

the firm pitched for (and placed second to victor Copithorne & Bellows)

in AltaVista’s agency-of-record derby last July.

Others joining the Applied roster include Linuxcare, a provider of

services and support for enterprise Linux customers; and boats.com, a

start-up aiming to be an online hub for the boating and marine

industries.
