LONDON: Edelman has poached Ashton Coleman-Smith away from Hill &

Knowlton to lead its European-wide consumer practice.

Coleman-Smith, previously managing director of H&K’s corporate and

consumer financial group, said his Edelman role will be similar to the

one he had at H&K, where he attempted to use consumer brand-marketing

techniques on business clients.

’I will be taking consumer marketing methods to all types of brands.

That is the way communications is going,’ he explained.

Coleman-Smith will manage a team of 20 and report to Tari Hibbitt, the

chief executive of Edelman/UK. He replaces Christina Smedley, who left

the firm in February to join Amazon.com as director of

communications.

Coleman-Smith expects to work on high-profile Edelman accounts such as

Procter & Gamble, Ericsson and the Millennium Dome. He has also been

charged with expanding the firm’s consumer marketing capabilities

throughout Europe.

’I will have a roving remit,’ he said, adding that he will be

responsible for liaising with the consumer heads in each European

market.

To replace Coleman-Smith, H&K has hired Keith Sharpe, formerly head of

Burson-Marsteller’s corporate practice, as a senior consultant within

its corporate and consumer financial practice.
