RESTON, VA: Hill & Knowlton has named Phil Piemonte, formerly a VP in the technology practice at Powell Tate, managing director of its new Northern Virginia office. H&K also named Derwin Johnson, most recently an associate professor at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, managing director and head of its NY-based media training practice.

NEW YORK: The Securities Industry Association has tapped Thomas Price as

VP, marketing services. Formerly a corporate relations manager for the

American Stock Exchange, Tom will assist in marketing SIA products to

its member firms. He is slated to report to John Maurello, VP and

managing director of marketing and member services.





ALBANY, NY: Sawchuk, Brown Associates has named David Rooney VP. He

previously served as assistant communications director for Kaiser

Permanente’s Northeast division.





WASHINGTON, DC: BSMG has added two staffers to its public affairs

practice. Betsy Oilman, formerly with the National Marine Manufacturers

Association, joins as a senior associate for public policy projects, and

Josh Freed, previously deputy director of research for the Democratic

Congressional Campaign Committee, arrives as a senior associate in the

firm’s crisis management practice.





ALBANY, NY: OpenService, a developer and provider of fire wall, system

and application management software, has named Christopher Strug VP of

marketing, a post that encompasses responsibility for corporate and

marketing communications. He previously served as director of marketing

and sales for American Superconductor.
