The new operation boasts six staffers, bringing the agency’s total in

the region to 46. Its first retainer client will be Hewlett-Packard

subsidiary VeriFone, an electronic payment systems business which Newell

pitched and won earlier this month.

The agency’s expansion initiative coincides with its decision to leave

the Brodeur network, for which Newell PR was a country affiliate in Hong

Kong, after only a year. Newell said the agency had maintained amicable

relations with H-Line, a fellow Brodeur affiliate in Beijing, since the

split, and would continue to work with the firm on selected

projects.

Brodeur has named Newell rival Euan Barty Associates as its new Hong

Kong affiliate.

Newell MD Stuart Newell said the Beijing office will offer a full range

of marketing services. ’We’re keen to offer exactly the same level and

scope of services that we do in Hong Kong, rather than just press

release distribution.’
