SAN DIEGO: Looking to cash in on the growing international market

for hi-tech PR, Lewis, a five-year-old London-based agency specializing

in media relations for technology companies, has announced plans for a

dollars 1.5 million, eight-office expansion over the next 12 months.

According to Lewis business development manager Tim Wheatcroft, five of

these new locations will be in the US, most likely in Austin, San Jose,

Boston, Chicago and Raleigh. The firm already boasts one US office in

San Diego.

’We chose these locations because they are all key technology centers,’

Wheatcroft explained. ’We’re aiming to build a network where clients are

never more than two flying hours away from an office.’

It is expected that the new offices will create about 50 new jobs,

effectively doubling the agency’s existing staff. The majority of the

investment budget will be allocated to recruitment, office setup and

infrastructure costs.

Wheatcroft said the expansion has been fueled by 60% growth in agency

revenues. From 1998 to 1999, Lewis went from dollars 2.84 million to

dollars 4.65 million in reported annual fee income.

He also noted that market demand has fueled the firm’s desire to expand

its network: ’It’s clear that demand is outstripping supply by a long

way. Agencies are not actively recruiting new clients, and there is a

need for high-quality agencies’

In Europe, Lewis will open branches in Maastricht, Milan and

Stockholm.

The agency has outposts in Paris and Munich in addition to its London

HQ.

Founded in 1995, Lewis represents Informix, Memo-rex and

AllAdvantage.com in Europe.
