SAN FRANCISCO: Four months after joining Hill & Knowlton's San Francisco outpost as a managing director, former CNN producer Carla De Luca has jumped to Burson Marsteller.
De Luca, who declined to elaborate on reasons for her sudden change of agency, joined Burson/SF last month as a director in the firm's media relations practice. Prior to her brief H&K stint, De Luca had worked for Beyond.com as senior manager for editorial features. However, the bulk of her experience had been in broadcast journalism, including a stay at CNN.
While De Luca has not yet been replaced, H&K has tapped a high-level politico to serve as an MD in the San Fran public affairs and corporate practice. Esther Watkins Gulli arrives at the firm from the US Department of the Treasury, where she spent more than three years as director of strategic planning, scheduling and events. She also worked on President Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign and on the Chicago Democratic Convention.
'PR and my work in politics are very similar,' Gulli said. 'But in politics, our product was a person, and we were selling ideas and initiatives.'
