SAN FRANCISCO: Weber Group Bay Area GM Curt Kundred has left the
firm to rejoin Fleishman-Hillard’s West Coast hi-tech charge.
Kundred, who served as a Fleishman/SF SVP from 1995 to 1998, fills a
long-standing vacancy created by John Berard’s defection to FitzGerald
Communications in May 1999. He will serve as SVP and GM of the San Fran
The move comes in the wake of Weber’s announcement that Portland, OR
general manager Donna Gibbs has been handed the reins for the agency’s
Western operations, which means she will oversee offices in Denver,
Austin, Palo Alto and San Francisco, as well as Portland. But Kundred
said his resignation was not motivated by Gibbs’ promotion.
’I’ve been gone from Weber and effectively just on call since April, and
I found out about Donna’s promotion last week when everybody else did,’
he claimed. He admitted, however, that Weber CEO Marijean Lauzier’s
recent decision to relocate to the Bay Area had significantly changed
his role within the firm.
Lauzier could not be reached for comment, but sources close to both
parties hinted that she had been dissatisfied with Kundred’s performance
and with high turnover at the Palo Alto office. ’They weren’t happy with
him and he wasn’t happy with them,’ said the source.
Weber VP Dave Yewman will replace Gibbs as GM in Portland.
