ATLANTA: Duffey Communications has unveiled Golden Egg, a

new-business incubator that the firm claims is the first launched by a

marketing company in the Atlanta region.

According to agency founder and president Lee Duffey, Golden Egg will

offer all of the organizational-development and back-office support of

traditional incubators, but it will add the Duffey suite of

communications services. Like many West Coast PR firms with incubator

arms, Duffey is offering market strategy and other communications

counsel in exchange for an equity stake in client companies.

’Cash is usually tight, so these companies often have to decide between

business infrastructure and a solid marketing plan,’ Duffey explained,

adding that he hopes Golden Egg will eliminate the need for start-ups to

make such compromises.

Duffey noted that West Coast firms with incubators (SparkPR, LaunchPod)

still define themselves primarily as communications companies and thus

shy away from the management, development and sales services offered by

Golden Egg.

’Our goal is to get a client on the radar screen,’ said SparkPR’s Chris

Holten Hemple. ’We’re very networked in the valley and we sometimes

broker business deals for clients, but we’re very focused on media

relations.’ Holten Hemple described Duffey’s plan as ’ambitious.’

Added LaunchPod co-founder Jesse Odell, ’It’s obviously very

forward-thinking. It’s needed.’
