REDWOOD CITY, CA: Worldcom, an international network of more than

90 independent PR firms, has announced an alliance with Niku Corporation

to form an online community for use by Worldcom partners around the

world.

The site, which is slated to launch later this year, will reside on

iNiku.com, a business application portal that includes services and

industry-specific information for small businesses and

entrepreneurs.

’The goal is to develop an Internet tool that helps Worldcom members

service clients worldwide,’ said former Worldcom chair Brian Cummings,

who is heading up the iNiku.com task force. ’Instead of sending out mass

e-mails or putting up new Web sites for each individual project, we can

make this an ongoing, growing community to achieve results and share

knowledge.’

Cummings said the Worldcom site will likely have a searchable database

of case histories and an area detailing member firms’ talents and areas

of expertise. Cummings called the cost of maintaining such a site

’nominal - somewhere around dollars 50 a month,’ and said it would

likely be rolled into agencies’ annual dues rather than billed

separately

For Niku, which recently trumpeted plans to target the PR market, the

Worldcom deal is clearly an aggressive move. With partner firms in more

than 38 countries on six continents and more than 1,600 employees,

Worldcom should prove an ideal audience for the company as it follows

through on plans to deliver a suite of intranet and extranet

applications, including PR-related modules, by the second half of

2000.

Worldcom counts Bliss, Gouverneur & Associates, Padilla Speer Beardsley

and Marina Maher Communications among its 90-plus members.
