HERNDON, VA: Shandwick/DC will join the invasion of large agencies
into Northern Virginia with the opening of an office in Herndon on
Friday - that is, if technology cooperates.
Ben Boyd, EVP and manager of the agency’s DC technology practice, said
the office debut has been delayed because of problems with the
installation of a T1 line. Nevertheless, Shandwick/DC is planning to
shift about 10 of its 25 hi-tech staffers to the new outpost.
Unlike several other firms that have opened their doors in Northern
Virginia, the agency plans to shift more than a small percentage of its
local resources to the new office. ’This will not be a satellite
office,’ Boyd emphasized.
’We’re not making a ghostprint here - it’s a footprint.’
Additionally, Boyd said that he expects to hire staff specifically for
the Herndon office. ’The culture will be decidedly different,’ he said,
noting the contrast between dressed-to-the-nines DC and the informal
Northern Virginia hi-tech climate.
Boyd claimed that Shandwick’s Washington tech practice will bill about
dollars 5 million this year - up dramatically from a year ago, when Boyd
said the practice was barely billing ’a quarter of a million dollars.’
