NEW YORK: GCI Group has hired Tom Reno away from Makovsky & Company

to fill the vacant MD position in its New York office.

Reno will oversee a staff of 200 and an office that is set to grow 24%

over its 1999 take of dollars 19 million, according to president and CEO

Bob Feldman.

’The office is doing better than it’s ever done in terms of profit,’

Feldman said. ’What I expect of Tom is to ride that and expand it.’

Reno replaces Aaron Kwittken, who left GCI to head up communications at

tech incubator IncuVest. Feldman said 15 candidates were considered for

the MD vacancy.

The addition of Reno can only help the NY office, which has lost

Kwittken, marketing practice leader Carla Stanmyre and corporate

practice head Jim Cox in recent months. But Reno said that these

defections did not make him apprehensive about joining the agency.

’Having competed against GCI, I know that they’re a strong firm with

great people,’ he explained. ’It was a combination of the firm and the

opportunity to manage the New York office that made me take the

job.’

Reno, who spent three years at Makovsky, most recently served as MD of

the firm’s professional/financial services and tech practices.
