According to CMGI director of communications Deirdre Moore, the parting

with Middleberg at the end of June was amicable. ’We simply needed a

new, different kind of agency to help us grow to the next level,’ Moore

explained. She added that she had not conducted a formal review and

called Schwartz ’the only serious contender.’

CMGI, which has an internal PR staff of about six on the East Coast and

in Silicon Valley, will work with Schwartz’s San Francisco office and

with the agency’s Waltham, MA headquarters.

’Based on their track record as well as their relationships with other

companies in the CMGI network, they bring an established base of

knowledge about our business model that is invaluable,’ said Moore.

One of the few tech agencies of its size still independently owned,

Schwartz has about 230 employees and reported just over dollars 21

million in fee income for 1999. Current clients include Red Hat and

dotTV.
