(Puffy) Combs is about to add another hyphenate: marketer.

Combs, the head of Bad Boy Entertainment, is launching an as-yet-unnamed

marketing and ad firm targeting young, urban consumers. The agency will

be headed by Jameel Spenser, who most recently worked at Vanguarde

Media.

Execs from integrated shops targeting the same urban niche professed

everything from ignorance to amusement about the prospect of Puffy

jumping on the marketing bandwagon.

’This is a very, very competitive industry,’ said Chisholm-Mingo Group

CEO Samuel Chisholm said. ’Success in it depends on one’s ability to

understand the marketplace and to deliver in a positive way. But (Combs)

has already demonstrated an understanding of the urban marketplace.’

Asked whether Combs’ 1999 arrest for illegal weapon possession would

hinder the growth of the agency, Chisholm responded, ’Certain clients

and segments of markets find that type of element intriguing and

beneficial.

But there may also be some clients who will just stay away.’

Bad Boy Entertainment publicist Nathalie Moar said it was premature to

comment on the new agency, which she said is set to launch in

approximately three weeks.
