China exhibition taps Rubenstein

NEW YORK: Rubenstein Associates has been tapped to promote an

exhibition on Chinese culture set to open in New York next month. But

given the timing of the event - which coincides with a visit by Chinese

premiere Jiang Jemin - the agency may well be called upon to deal with

protesters as well.

’We are being hired to promote (the event) and handle any potential

trouble,’ said Howard Rubenstein. ’You always try to anticipate

protests, but hopefully it won’t happen.’

Rubenstein was hired by event organizer The John Schreiber Group, which

is working with the Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group in New

York.

The exhibition will highlight art, fashion and culture of the past and

present.

The cultural event makes its US debut on September 6, just days after

the conclusion of the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and

Spiritual Leaders at the United Nations. Given the expected attendance

of a Chinese delegation, the Dalai Lama has been barred from

participating in the UN summit.
