added PR muscle last week with the addition of Richard Broome as staff

VP of corporate affairs.

Broome, an attorney, will be responsible for corporate communications,

including PR, media relations and governmental affairs. He arrives from

Selective Insurance Company, where he was VP of corporate communications

and governmental affairs.

Broome said he took the Hertz post because ’they’re a great company with

a great reputation - everybody knows who they are.’ He said he was also

drawn in by Hertz’s ’openness and eagerness to do new things in a

changing market.’ When asked about his PR plans, Broome said it was too

early to make predictions, explaining that he didn’t want ’to put the

cart before the horse.’

Broome will report to president and CEO Craig Koch and oversee two

staffers in the corporate affairs department. He replaces Joseph Russo.

’My sense was they weren’t looking to change (the position),’ Broome

said. ’They were looking for some continuity.’

Hertz does not employ an agency of record, though it has worked with a

handful of agencies (including Boston’s Regan Communications Group) on a

project basis.
