Last Call: Jersey research firm has attitude

What pops into your head when you hear the word 'Omaha'? Nothing, if you are anything like the 10,000 people recently surveyed by New Jersey-based Plog Research.

Omaha, NE is set to open a new convention center and arena in 2003, and manager of the local convention and visitors bureau Tim McNeil must build Omaha an image.

City leaders already knew that people rarely utter 'Omaha' and 'vacation' in the same breath, but they didn't know the depth of the public awareness void. 'Ninety-three percent of the public was unfamiliar with Omaha,' said McNeil. Detroit was the only city ranked lower in Plog surveys.

Of course, Plog itself is based in New Jersey. What's that saying about people in glass houses ...?
