The society expects about 125 people and says agencies and corporations will be recruiting at the event. But the focus will be on networking, not job hunting, said Meta J. Mereday, the society's VP of programs and general administration and also VP marketing and communications at the NY/NJ Minority Purchasing Council. Area college students interested in PR are encouraged to attend and to learn about the business.

In that vein, the conference will feature a session on career development and expects discussion on forming new chapters in such cities as Cincinnati, Dallas, Philadelphia, Detroit, Miami and Atlanta.

Speakers scheduled for the meeting include Lon Walls, head of Wall Communications, who will be given a founders award by the group, and Michael Lewellen, VP of corporate communications for BET Holdings.

The group currently has chapters in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Those interested in more information can check www. nbprs.com or call 323-856-0857.
