NEW YORK: Multicultural Marketing Resources has launched an e-mail-based news service to better connect multicultural marketers with journalists.

In addition to receiving news, and opportunities for multicultural marketing, PR people will be able to post press releases that will be e-mailed to 1,000 journalists nationwide who have a special interest in covering minority markets or in finding and interviewing more diverse sources.

The service also will allow reporters to send queries to a database of 2,000 experts on African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic communities and markets.

Lisa Skriloff, president of Multicultural Marketing Resources, said that the e-mail service was created because 'PR practitioners expressed an interest in learning about multicultural PR at the same time that reporters are seeking diverse sources to accurately reflect the communities they cover.'

One group of PR practitioners, the PRSA, is planning to learn more about multicultural opportunities nationally and at local chapters. Bob Weintraub, president-elect of the New York chapter, said that one of his goals is to create a multicultural committee to educate PR practitioners about the ethnic marketplace. Art Stevens, the national PRSA chair-elect, has also made ethnic marketing one of his key objectives.
