'As our relationship evolved, there was no longer a perfect fit between their needs and our resources,' explained Holland Carney, Western region president for Alexander Ogilvy, which took over Covad's corporate PR business from Sterling Communications in 1999.

AlexanderOgilvy will continue work on Covad's public affairs and political issues, a separate account handled by the agency's Tech Policy practice in Washington, DC and San Francisco.

Covad's search is being handled by agency consultant Dan Bellach, and agencies such as FitzGerald Communications and Hoffman have already received invitations to pitch.
