NEW YORK: The World Intellectual Property Organization has awarded pop singer Madonna the right to her own domain name.

The material girl filed a complaint in July about the use of Madonna.com by Web developer Dan Parisi, who has used the site to post porn.

Madonna's publicist Liz Rosenberg wouldn't return calls, but brand expert and Publicis Dialog chief creative officer Steve Bryant agreed with the decision saying: 'What space she has created in the public mind? Apart from the Virgin Mary, she is who we think of when we say Madonna so she has some claim.'

Bryant called for the system of handing out domain names on a first-come-first-served basis to be changed.
