Last Call: How to make sure you get hired. Not

For the first in an occasional series, What Not to Do in a PR Agency Job Interview, PRWeek brings you: Do Not Try To Steal Potential New Business From Your Prospective Employer, as told by Access Communications SVP Matt Afflixio.

Last week, a woman from rival hi-tech agency FitzGerald Communications interviewed with Afflixio for a VP post in the New York office, during which she asked about the type of clients she would take on.

'I told her about some new business we were pitching,' said Afflixio, who received a call from the prospective client just hours after the interview.

'He had just gotten a call from this person - whom he knew we were interviewing - asking if her current agency could pitch.' When confronted, she pleaded that she got the lead from someone else.

Sceptical, the client teamed up with Afflixio for the perfect revenge: he sent her the RFP and is asking the agency to fill out the whole 15-page questionnaire, even though they will not be asked to pitch.
