Sometimes, missed opportunities can come back to haunt you. Just ask Dan Edelman, founder of Edelman Public Relations in Chicago.Speaking at the PRSA convention with crosstown rival Al Golin, founder of Golin-Harris, Edelman was reminded that when Golin first went after the McDonald's account in the '50s, the fast-foodery had offices in the same downtown Chicago building as Edelman.

'He was in that building everyday,' Golin chided Edelman, yet it was Golin who landed the account (at the time worth dollars 500 per month) by making a cold call on company founder Ray Kroc. Winning that business put Golin-Harris on the PR map, and the agency still handles the client today. As Golin recounted the story. Edelman just put his head down in his hands.
