What stamps out cigarette butts with big, webbed feet and quacks 'y'all'? An East Texas spokesduck, that's what.
The Duck is the animated anti-Joe-Camel brainchild of about 100 kids who got together to help Tuerff-Davis EnviroMedia spend dollars 4 million in Texas tobacco settlement money.
Tony Rock, brother of comic Chris Rock, provides the Duck's decidedly unDonald-like voice. The character debuted in PSAs and on the Web late last month (www. ducktexas.com). He'll fly east from Austin this fall for appearances at dances, debates and protests.
Along the way, the agency will shoot a 'duckumentary' in which kids speak their minds on why smoking just isn't cool. 'The Duck knows who he is,' Rock said in a press release. 'Nobody's going to push the Duck around.'
The Texas legislature will review campaign results during next year's session. Lawmakers will decide then whether to let the Duck waddle around the rest of the state, or whether EnviroMedia is quacking up the wrong tree.
