Nobody likes getting caught in an endless voicemail maze - or 'voicejail' as it has become known. Well, PRWeek has an idea to do something about it - but we need your help.
Let's call it the 'Yes on Option Seven Campaign.' Here's a bit of background: over the summer, NJ-based National Discount Brokers Group changed its voicemail system. However, Chris McQuilkin, president and CEO, noticed that 'option seven' had been left out on the main menu.
Taking his thinking-outside-the-box lessons to heart, Quilkin decided that, instead of linking it to some boring promotion or 'special offer' he would link it to the soothing - and strangely hilarious - sounds of a duck quacking.
So now, when you call 800-888-3999, after the usual menu of options ('for trading, press one; for a new account kit, press two') you will hear 'if you would like to hear a duck quack, press seven.' Call it. We dare you not to laugh.
Sound frivolous? Think again. News of the quirk spread, and new accounts have shot up 75% since the duck premiered. The firm is now averaging two million calls a week.
So PRWeek is encouraging every office with a voice mail system to say 'yes!' to option seven. Trash whatever you may have in that spot now, and replace it with something fun - something lighthearted. Use your imagination - a bark, a moo, a squeak - whatever. We can make this a grassroots campaign, and you can be in on it from the ground floor.
