NEW YORK: With the ink barely dry on the merger papers, newly integrated PR giant Weber Shandwick has announced its acquisition of consumer and entertainment firm Bragman Nyman Cafarelli PR & Marketing (BNC).

The move gives Weber Shandwick's parent company, The Interpublic Group - which also owns PMK and Rogers & Cowan - a stronghold on the entertainment PR market.

BNC will retain its name and brand identity. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Michael Nyman, BNC president, said the firm would benefit from Weber Shandwick's global reach. 'It seems the current climate is all about consolidation and globalization,' he said. 'Now, we'll be able to help clients who have global opportunities.'

The 85-person firm, based in Beverly Hills and New York, boasts projected 2000 revenues of dollars 8.5 million and a star-studded client list, including Cameron Diaz, Whoopi Goldberg, Avon and the Screen Actors Guild.

'Weber really admired (BNC's) business model,' said Jane Dolan, a spokesperson for Weber Shandwick. 'These guys have really done a nice job converging entertainment and product publicity.'

Founded by Howard Bragman in 1989, BNC tailored its services to the unique needs of Hollywood and its tributaries. 'Back in those days,' said Nyman, 'there was not a whole lot of activity that involved both the corporate and entertainment PR worlds. We decided the agency had to embrace both.'

The firm was behind last year's launch of the Sony PlayStation 2 and the US debut of the UK's top 'lad mag', FHM. It also handles TV shows Just Shoot Me and The Drew Carey Show.
