WASHINGTON: Hyde Park Communications has been awarded a high-profile and sensitive task from Hoffman La Roche: to tackle issues involving HIV, Hepatitis C, dermatology and community relations.

The agency will also manage the Treatment Access Expansion Project (TAEP) for Hoffman La Roche, Bristol-Myers Squibb and the Title II Community AIDS National Network, as well as separate community relations projects for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Hyde Park will provide public policy, regulatory and reimbursement assistance to Hoffman La Roche, the prescription drug unit of the Swiss healthcare company Roche Group. 'We will be working with Hoffman La Roche on FDA and related public-policy issues, and regulatory reimbursement fronts,' said Jeffrey Sandman, CEO of Hyde Park.

Sandman cited Hepatitis C as an active public policy issue. 'It is a growing area of infection worldwide and in the US,' he said. 'It has a long dormancy period and all indications say it is on the rise.'

HIV also continues to dominate public policy. 'Although the overall numbers of infected people are down, the number of African American men and women with the virus is on the increase,' Sandman said.

The TAEP program was launched in 1997 and has worked to ensure that all HIV patients have access to treatment. 'We will be working on reimbursement programs and public policy, making sure that these issues are on federal and state program agendas,' Sandman explained.

Hyde Park, headquartered in Washington, DC, was launched in April 2000.

It specializes in health, corporate communications, litigation, nutrition and the environment.
