LAST CALL: 'Lame' Gallagher hits sour note on popularity front

Surely there are more loathsome people on the face of the earth than Liam Gallagher, lead singer of pop group Oasis. Well, aren't there?

Barely, according to a new poll conducted by Madame Tussaud's, the international wax museum. Gallagher ranked third on the list of most hated or feared people.

The only two figures that ranked higher in the hate scale than Gallagher were Adolf Hitler and Slobodan Milosevic. And poor old UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who was the most favored politician in the 1999 poll, wound up fifth in the most hated and feared this year.

Other results revealed that President Clinton has re-deemed himself in the eyes of wax lovers (there must be a joke in that one, Ed). He jumped from second place last year in the favorite politician rankings to the top spot in 2000. 'Clin-ton's 'extra curricular' activities have done little to dent his appeal,' crows the press release.

Catherine Zeta Jones took over Princess Diana's long-held position as most beautiful. Brad Pitt was judged the third most beautiful.

But Princess Diana is still the number one wax attraction, followed by Pitt and Nicolas Cage.

Yes, those all make sense. But that hated and feared category is still rather baffling. It begs the question, who else made the cut? Where, for instance, does suspected international terrorist Osama bin Laden feature?

Somewhere between Britney Spears and Josef Mengele, presumably.
