CAMPBELL, CA: Silicon Valley-based agency Benjamin Group/BSMG Worldwide has snapped up Karen Klein, the former head of Fleishman-Hillard's San Francisco technology practice, to lead its San Francisco office.

Klein, who until August 2000 led the Fleishman team, handling top accounts such as Yahoo! and Nortel Networks, will be responsible for the overall management and growth of the two-year-old BSMG San Francisco office, which also houses technology-oriented Benjamin Group clients. She fills a position that has effectively been open since September, when former San Francisco GM Dan Cahill took an extended leave of absence.

Klein left Fleishman as an SVP and deputy GM last summer due to a disagreement with the management 'approach and style' of San Francisco GM Curt Kundred.

'For a few months I considered options on the client side, and I consulted for a few VCs,' Klein explained. 'But this job seemed very appealing because I have the opportunity to be in the driver's seat.'

Fleishman/SF has since filled Klein's post with Marty Coleman, formerly SVP of the b-to-b practice at Access Communications.

Benjamin/BSMG has 24 full-time employees in San Francisco. Clients include Mentor Graphics and PMC Sierra.
