As an SVP reporting to San Francisco managing director Robert Mathias, Hausman is charged with growing a practice that already includes such clients as CommerceNet, MarketMile and BIBIT.

He is the first person to take on the role since the office opened its doors in San Francisco in 1999.

'The office has fewer than 20 people right now, so we can retain that fast-moving, collaborative style that I enjoy as we grow, and yet also have the backing of a 1,400-person, 49-office global PR firm. That, to me, is the best of both worlds,' he explained.

Prior to this appointment, Hausman spent four years with Connors, a New York-based boutique firm best known for launching consumer Internet companies such as Priceline and Webvan. Earlier in his career, he worked for Porter Novelli and Edelman in New York.

Rory Faber, from BSMG's Financial Relations Board, joined as a VP at Connors/SF to replace Hausman.
