NEW YORK: Dan Klores Associates has this week landed three high-profile assignments: to promote a new Major League Baseball initiative; to consult with Nickelodeon on its Big Help program; and to raise the profile of Mother Jones magazine.

The liberal magazine turns 25 this year, which is one reason it wanted to retain outside PR counsel for the first time.

'There are a lot of things happening and we need to make some noise about it,' said Jay Harris, the magazine's publisher.

Mother Jones is far better known on the West Coast and it wants to boost its profile in New York and Washington, DC. For agency principal Dan Klores, Mother Jones is both good business and good karma. 'I'm reliving my radical past,' he said. 'It's really a labor of love and memory.'

In March, Major League Baseball, together with its licensees and retailing partners, is launching an authentication program to thwart the widespread sale of counterfeit merchandise. 'It's really to protect the fans,' said Klores.

Nickelodeon has retained the agency to develop strategy for its Big Help program, which encourages kids to volunteer to help other children. Seven years after its launch, the program is looking for ways to tap into the coveted next generation of viewers.
