Nike tabs Gable Group for golf PR

BEAVERTON, OR: Nike Golf, which currently markets shoes, apparel and balls, has tapped The Gable Group to assist with media relations, special events and trade show support.

BEAVERTON, OR: Nike Golf, which currently markets shoes, apparel and balls, has tapped The Gable Group to assist with media relations, special events and trade show support.

Until now, Nike Golf, like most of the Beaverton, OR company's divisions, has handled its PR in-house. Gable has been hired on a project-by-project basis, beginning with media relations support for the 2001 PGA Show in Orlando in February.

Value of the account and the PR budget for Nike Golf were not disclosed.

According to Nike Golf marketing director Mike Kelly, Gable - which represented Taylor Made Golf for two years - had the needed knowledge of the golf industry and experience with the sports media to make them 'a great partner for our internal communications team.'

A mid-sized independent based in San Diego, Gable Group handles a wide variety of clients, from hi-tech to healthcare and public affairs.



- Nike is sponsoring an initiative by The Matrix Foundation, a group formed to further the education and advancement of female communicators, to encourage women to play golf for its networking opportunities. The program will begin with a golf event at The Association for Women in Communications Leadership Forum on February 8.
