SAN FRANCISCO: Financial news Web site MarketWatch.com has relaunched its site and hired a new director of corporate communications, Dan Silmore.

Silmore, who comes to MarketWatch from sister property HealthWatch, replaces Tim Mehren who left the company last summer. Silmore will be responsible for internal and external communications, market research and monitoring Web site traffic. He will report to Michele Chaboudy, VP of marketing.

Silmore began his career at Wells Fargo's internet services group and said he was pleased to be returning to a financial communications company.

Similar to his task of educating consumers about then-new banking Internet technology, Silmore said a goal at MarketWatch will be to educate consumers about what he sees as MarketWatch's superior internet content.

'The challenge is to cut through the clutter and demonstrate to the market that we have a reason for being here,' said Silmore. 'We're getting our message out, which is we're the story behind the numbers and we're the original source for information.'
