SAN FRANCISCO: Industry Standard's corporate PR manager, Deirdre Hussey, has jumped to rival publication Red Herring, in move she called 'absolutely unrelated' to the magazine's February 21 announcement of company-wide layoffs.

She will be the magazine's first corporate communications director.

According to Hussey, a former publicist for the Village Voice, her decision to leave Industry Standard was based on career opportunities, not anticipated downsizing.

However it seems that Hussey got out of her former company just in time.

In the most recent round of layoffs, 69 employees - 16% of the work force - lost their jobs. Public relations director Alissa Neil will remain in her current position.

Hussey's new employer, Red Herring, trimmed its work force by 10% in December, eliminating 25 jobs.
