MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: SGI, the hardware company formerly known as Silicon Graphics and best known for its visual effects technology used in such films as Jurassic Park, has picked Text 100 as its new PR agency of record.

The appointment follows an extensive, three-month review that had incumbent Weber Shandwick Worldwide, Fitz-gerald Communications and Fleishman-Hillard vying for the dollars 1 million account.

London-based Text 100, a hi-tech specialist with US offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, CA, Atlanta, Boston and New York, beat out Fleishman in the final rounds.

SGI corporate PR director Richard Marshall said Text will take over some of SGI's product business, and will handle corporate and vertical market PR.

SGI has foundered in recent years while trying to reposition itself as a supplier of high-performance servers, supercomputers and workstations.

Sales dropped from dollars 851 million to dollars 426 million in 12 consecutive quarters.
