Mwambia will report to Nick May, president of Ogilvy PR Europe, whose responsibility now extends to the new EMEA regions.

The agency starts with four clients: Kenya Airlines; DT Dobie, an auto dealership and franchise for DaimlerChrysler and Nissan; The Stanley, a five star hotel; and Bamburi Portland Cement, a cement mining company.

May said the Kenya office will help Ogilvy gain clients in growth areas including corporate and healthcare. Transportation will also be a focus for the new office.

'Because of the endemic AIDS and HIV situation there, the healthcare industry is very interested in that area,' said May. 'For energy, oil and also for transport, it's a very big market and it's thriving.'

May said the group will also pitch global firms with operations in Kenya, including Glaxo SmithKline, Citibank, Boeing and IBM. He added that the new office has already spoken with local Ogilvy & Mather ad clients, including Ford Motor, which Ogilvy PR already works with in a number of European markets.
