WASHINGTON: Victoria 'Torie' Clarke was appointed by President Bush

last week to serve as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the

Department of Defense, as predicted by PRWeek (March 12). Clarke will

remain with Hill & Knowlton as GM of its DC office during the Senate

confirmation process. Formerly the assistant US trade representative for

public affairs, Clarke also served as former president Bush's

spokesperson during his 1992 re-election campaign.
