INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Body Shop lets go head of global PR

LONDON: The Body Shop has laid off Pleun van Akkerveeken, who was

effectively the company's global PR head, just eight months after she

was appointed.

She joined the company last July from the Arcadia retail group, where

she was group PR manager. Van Akkerveeken was Body Shop's first

communications head since Gavin Grant left to join Burson-Marsteller the

previous winter.

A company statement said it had reviewed marketing and PR and decided to

merge campaigns, press and internal communications under one unit, led

by Steve McIvor, former head of campaigns. The corporate and product PR

teams will report to an as-yet-unfilled position.
