How long have you been in your job? Ten months.
Describe the space you work in. While I have one of the bigger offices,
I've dubbed it the cave because I have no windows. I've had my nieces
sketch me some caveman-like art to hang on the walls to give it a real
prehistoric feel. Now I just need to hang some red meat from the
Do you socialize with your colleagues? Of course, it's a great place to
work. Tuesday night sushi is common. We also play on a softball team
together. Our team name is 'Pure Evil.' Did I mention that I moved from
New York and still have no other friends in Chicago?
How often do you see the boss? Though Gary's door is always open, I nag
him only when necessary. I leave camping out in the boss' office to
other folks. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
Who is the smartest person you work with? It's definitely our IT manager
Theresa. The way she protected us from the Anna Kournikova virus brought
tears to my eyes.
Who is the craziest? The entire creative department. You know those
wacky creative types.
How comfortable are your offices? My office will be perfect once the wet
bar is installed.
How often are you still there when the cleaners come round? Even if I
stay late, I hide so the cleaning lady won't know that I'm the guy who
puts full Diet Coke cans in his garbage can.
What is the best thing about working there? Slack Barshinger is not a PR
firm. It's Chicago's top business-to-business integrated marketing firm.
Because it's not a PR firm, there are only a handful of
self-aggrandizing PR types like myself.
And the worst thing? There are still a handful of those
self-aggrandizing PR types.
What's been your biggest mistake while working there? Giving a certain
reporter my cell phone number. I have to shut it off when I go to bed
now. We'll just leave it at that.
And your luckiest break? Getting to live in Chicago. New York is the
capital of the world, but Chicago is the best city to live in.
What is the biggest thing to hit your office in the past year? Me.
