Murdoch selects Regan for News Corp SVP in DC

NEW YORK: Rupert Murdoch's global media empire has signed up a

senior telecoms executive to represent its interests in Washington

DC.

Michael Regan, 42, was confirmed as SVP of government affairs last week

and will begin on April 9. Regan is currently with NextWave Telecom as

SVP of external affairs.

In his new post, Regan will oversee the roster of PR firms working for

News Corp on a variety of issues. His job will also involve liaising

with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in addition to the US

Congress and other legislative bodies.

Among the issues on Regan's plate will be News Corp's acquisition of the

Chris-Craft TV station group, which still needs regulatory approval.

In addition, News Corp is still in the midst of discussions to acquire

DirecTV.

News Corp and a number of other firms are fighting the current caps on

the number of stations a single media entity can own. The FCC is under

pressure to raise those limits.

Regan is a key addition to News Corp senior management, having helped

write most of the legislation in place. He was a senior staffer on the

House Commerce Committee and was involved in drafting the 1996

Telecommunications Act.

Regan said: 'It is a dynamic company and an exciting opportunity to work

for a firm with such a diversity of interests.'
