Goldstein fills top Dow Jones PR post

NEW YORK: Dow Jones, which publishes The Wall Street Journal, has

hired Steve Goldstein as VP of corporate communications, its top PR

Richard Tofel, Goldstein's predecessor, will become assistant to the

publisher. Other Dow Jones titles include SmartMoney and Barron's, and

the company also provides news content to CNBC.

Previously SVP at the Insurance Information Institute, Goldstein

admitted his first task will be to learn the publishing business.

'I want to see things like how the newspaper is printed, visit different

bureaus and meet as many employees as I can,' he said. This is all part

of his plan, he continued, to make the communications office more

accessible and responsive to employee information needs.

Goldstein will also focus on building brand awareness

Dow Jones has PR teams based in New York, London and Hong Kong.

During his seven-week interview process, Goldstein met WSJ managing

editor Paul Steiger, who offered him a piece of advice: 'He told me to

never lie,' said Goldstein
