NASHVILLE, TN: Bridgestone/Firestone is opening a Washington, DC
government affairs office April 16 and has poached Edelman's Steven Akey
as division VP of government affairs to staff it.
Firestone had handled government affairs from its Nashville headquarters
in the past, but after last year's 6.5 million tire recall, decided it
needed a DC presence. 'We have developed a number of relationships with
members of Congress and the administration, and we want to continue
those,' said Jill Bratina, director of PR for Firestone.
Akey was most recently SVP and director of Edelman's transportation
policy group, and has worked as chief spokesperson for the Clinton
administration's Secretary of Transportation.
