LAST CALL: Web site will see if PR can take a joke

It's never easy for a new firm to get attention. Faced with that

challenge, Ed Vesely, founder of Excelsis Group in Wilmette, IL, decided

a good joke or two might be the best way to let people know he's in

business for himself these days.

Vesely has launched MarketingHumor.com, a Web site that pokes fun at

marketing and PR. While the site has some research tools and links,

Vesely's includes a hall of shame for what he considers bad marketing

(such as the new US Army campaign) and even an interactive soap opera

about a start-up software firm.

Vesely isn't concerned some serious-minded PR people might take offense

to his poking fun at the business. 'It's not like we're doing air

traffic control,' he says. Lighten up, and check the latest installment

of 're-OrientXpress,' his online soap.
