NEW YORK: Powerful Media's two-person PR department has been
disbanded following the company's merger with Brill Media Holdings.
Jason Roth, director of communications, and Allison Schleuter, publicity
coordinator, were laid off last week when the deal was announced.
Brill, which owns the magazine Brill's Content, gains control of Inside
magazine, but plans to replace both with a new title, Inside
It also owns Inside.com.
The company is 49% owned by Primedia and a partner in Media Central, a
collection of media publications and resources. Inside.com will be
blended with Media Central.
Primedia uses Sloane & Company for PR. Neither Powerful Media nor Brill
Media retains an agency.
Brill's Cindy Rosenthal, who, along with one other person make up the
company's PR team, would not confirm the percentage of jobs yet to be
cut. Some news reports have said as much as 50% of the total staff.
